CVS CAREMARK CHARITY CLASSIC GOLF TOURNAMENT
INTRODUCES NEW ELEMENTS TO TOURNAMENT PLAY
Top Two Teams From The Charity Classic’s Pepsi Pro-Am to Compete on the Big Stage
Closest To the Pin Contest Benefits Charities
WOONSOCKET, Rhode Island (May 9, 2011) – Did you ever dream of playing among the pros in a professional golf tournament? For two lucky amateur teams competing in the 2011 CVS Caremark Charity Classic Pepsi Pro-Am on Sunday, June 19 their dreams are about to come true.
CVS Caremark Charity Classic officials today announced several tournament enhancements designed to bring added excitement for fans as well as generate more funds for the tournament’s benefiting charities.
Among the new additions is the introduction of the Pepsi Max Shootout during which the first-place team from both the Pepsi Pro-Am morning and afternoon rounds compete in a playoff on Monday, June 20th. The one-day Pepsi Max Shootout will take place during regular, professional tournament play. A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, the two, four-person amateur teams will be woven into the professional’s tee-off rotation on Monday for this “tournament within a tournament.”
Closet To The Pin
Another exciting new feature this year is the addition of a closest to the pin contest – with a charitable twist. Each of the 20 professionals on the roster for the 2011 CVS Caremark Charity Classic will be paired with one of the tournament’s charity partners. Each day, the golfer whose tee shot lands closest to the pin on the 17th hole wins $25,000 for the charity for which they are playing. Fans can root for their favorite charity by cheering on the golfers.
“We are continually looking for fresh and engaging ways to enhance the tournament and raise more money for charity,” said Eileen Howard Boone, Tournament Chairwoman, CVS Caremark Charity Classic. “We think fans will really enjoy these new additions, especially the amateurs who get to walk the fairways with the pros on Monday.”
