Billy Andrade and Helen Alfredsson Lead Charity Classic
Four teams tied at 5-under-par second place
BARRINGTON, RHODE ISLAND (June 22, 2009) -- Tournament co-host Billy Andrade and partner Helen Alfredsson are sitting solo in first place after their first round of six-under-par 65. One of the first-ever coed teams in CVS Caremark Charity Classic history, this also marks the first time a female has led after day one.
"Everyone understands we're here because we're raising lots of money for charity," said Andrade. "We just ham-and-egged it well. All-in-all it was a great day considering the weather."
"It's not as miserable when you're playing in a team," added Alfredsson.
Local favorite Brad Adamonis and partner Brittany Lincicome, both last-minute replacements for the U.S. Open rain-delay field loss, are tied for second place at five-under-par. "I've always wanted to play in this event, since I was a little kid," said Adamonis. "It means a lot to me and my friends and family here in my homestate."
Lincicome was also happy to have been able to participate in this year's Charity Classic, "It's a fun format," she pointed out, "We play the same way every week and it's great to see the guys—we never get to see them."
Also at five-under-par are the teams of David Toms and Nick Price, Boo Weekley and Chad Campbell and Rhode Island natives Brett Quigley & Dana Quigley.
Five Energizer Skins were awarded to four teams. This ties the tournament record from 2002 for most round-one skins. Nick Watney is currently leading the Neutrogena Suncare Long Drive competition with a 285-yard drive on #15.
